The new referral model aims to enable optimal and efficient use of healthcare capacities at all levels of the system when referring insured individuals for specialist-consultative and hospital healthcare services. With the new referral model, the insured person will be able to access specialist-consultative healthcare services with a referral from their chosen physician, and for hospital care, subspecialist services, and treatment at the University Clinics in Skopje, with a referral from a specialist/subspecialist physician.
The new referral model will help reduce the negative effects of the previous model, such as: overburdening of the University Clinics, increased costs for insured individuals, increased costs for the healthcare system, and underutilization of existing capacities.
