Azir Aliu was born on April 15, 1976, in Gostivar. He is a graduate electrical engineer. He graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the "Ss. Cyril and Methodius" University in Skopje, where he also earned a master's degree in electrical engineering. He continued his scientific interest at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the same university, where he obtained a doctorate in computer science.
In the early years of his academic career, he began as a junior assistant at the University of Southeast Europe, after previously working as a high school teacher at the "PanĨe Popovski" Gymnasium in Gostivar during the 2003/2004 period. He spent most of his academic career at the University of Southeast Europe in Tetovo.
From September 2004 to April 2007, he was engaged as a junior assistant at the University of Southeast Europe in Tetovo, and from April 2007 to 2012, he worked as an assistant. He continued his academic career at the same university, serving as vice-dean for science at the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology from 2012 to 2014. In September 2012, he was promoted to the title of associate professor, a position he held until 2017.
In the following five years, he was an assistant professor and then a full professor at the University of Southeast Europe in Tetovo, from August 2022 to the present. Previously, from 2018 to 2020, he was appointed vice-president of the University’s Board of Trustees.
His professional experience is also enriched by his membership in the National Committee for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, where he served from 2013 to 2017. During this time, he was also an advisor on higher education to the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia.
He is the author and co-author of several scientific papers. His scientific research focuses on intelligent systems, signal analysis and multi-resolution images, medical image processing and pattern recognition, machine learning, and parallel programming.
His teaching experience is focused on: Artificial Intelligence; computer system architecture; formal languages and automata; data analysis. Aliu also has extensive experience in project management and scientific research both domestically and abroad.
