Details and sketches for the new University Clinical Complex Mother Teresa

Details and sketches for the new University Clinical Complex Mother Teresa

The Concept Design for the Construction of the New Clinical Center in Skopje was developed by the architectural firm AREN SRL from Italy. The next phase involves creating the detailed (main) project, which is expected to be completed within 160 days, i.e., by the end of the year. The total cost for drafting the entire project is €1,300,000. The construction of the new Clinical Center, which will begin at the start of next year, is expected to be completed within three years.

MORE SPECIFIC DETAILS

The second and third floors will house the new Intensive Care Unit—both medical and surgical. Currently, each clinic has its own intensive care unit. The innovation lies in reorganizing intensive care into a multidisciplinary internal medicine intensive care unit in a single location. A daily cycle involving a multidisciplinary team is closely linked to lower mortality rates among patients in medical intensive care. The benefits in patient survival are largely attributed to the presence of such teams, which are primarily composed of highly trained physicians. These teams facilitate timely, face-to-face information exchange, creating tailored care plans for each individual patient. Separate ICUs will remain for specialized clinics such as cardiology and neurosurgery, offering ideal flexibility and concentrating specialized staff in one place to provide high-level, multidisciplinary care to the most critical patients.

SIGNAGE FOR PERSONS WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS

To aid navigation inside the buildings, appropriate signage for persons with visual impairments is planned:

Elevators will have button panels with numbers in Braille

Each floor will include tactile maps for specific areas

Additional Braille signage will be displayed on handrails in hallways

All signage elements will be made of hygienically maintainable and durable materials, resistant to long-term use and vandalism. Materials include aluminum structures, ABS connectors, and transparent anti-reflective PVC films. Symbols will be printed using photo-resistant materials, serigraphic applications, and high-quality adhesive films. Reflective materials will not be used.

ACCESSIBILITY

The new Clinical Center will be fully accessible—meaning anyone in need of medical services will be able to reach, enter, and use the building without barriers.

COMPUTERIZED CONTROL, MONITORING, AND BUILDING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (BMS)

An intelligent BMS (Building Management System) will be installed to manage and monitor all electrical and mechanical equipment, such as:

Ventilation and air conditioning

Lighting

Fire protection systems

Electricity and power systems

Security systems

The BMS acts as a central control center for collecting, managing, and optimizing all technical parameters of the building's equipment. It will control and manage all instruments in each technical system based on operator commands while maintaining safety standards. Operators will have full visual oversight and control of the entire complex. In terms of security, the system will gather data from sensors across the facility, issue alerts, and in critical situations, make automatic decisions.

BMS WILL CONTROL THE FOLLOWING SYSTEMS:

Ventilation and air conditioning, including full control of all chillers and fans

Lighting control and reporting of faulty devices

Fire protection system monitoring

Elevator performance and control

Security systems and restricted access devices (RFID or magnetic cards)

Video surveillance systems

Server room and IT infrastructure of the Clinical Center

Power systems and electricity distribution

Central public announcement and sound system

Generators and UPS backup power systems

Entire computer network monitoring and management

All computer workstations in the clinical block

Through its network architecture and IT center, the BMS will integrate all clinics within the new clinical block, enabling a centralized electronic archive of all patient medical records. This will form a central hospital information system containing:

Personal health records

X-ray images

Other medical documentation

This comprehensive integration aims to enhance the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare services in the new Clinical Center.
