There are no registered cases of West Nile fever in North Macedonia. So far, not a single patient infected with this virus has been admitted to the Clinic for Infectious Diseases. Among the patients examined at the Clinic, there has not even been a suspected case of West Nile virus infection.
The Institute of Public Health continuously monitors the situation regarding all infectious diseases, including West Nile fever, and possesses modern laboratory diagnostics for testing and confirmation of any potential suspected cases.
Not every mosquito is a carrier of the virus, and not every mosquito bite means that a person will become ill. Statistically, severe neuroinvasive forms of the disease appear in only about 1% of infected individuals, typically affecting older persons or those with weakened immune systems.
